Assessing Forced Labour Risks in Dutch Imports
Since December 2024, the European Forced Labour Regulation came into effect. The regulation prohibits companies from December 2027 onwards from offering products made with forced labour on the European market or exporting them from the European market. This analysis aims to provide an initial insight into countries and product groups with a potential risk of forced labour in Dutch imports.
The Forced Labour Regulation fits within the Dutch policy on International Responsible Business Conduct and promotes international labour standards and a level playing field. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commissioned this analysis in preparation for the regulation. The study aims to provide initial insight into countries and product groups with a possible risk of forced labour in Dutch imports. It also provides insight into how companies can identify and prioritise potential forced labour risk products. The analysis is based on public sources and does not make any statements on the actual risks of forced labour. Further research is needed for that. The results are intended as a starting point for further due diligence by companies.
